In earlier days, this ritual was held only after the completion of three months from the day of wedding. But now-a-days the ritual is held on the very day of the wedding.
Preparations are made separately for this by arranging the list of items required. The prominent ritual of the ceremony of three months is garbhadaana which literally means impregnation. For this an auspicious date is marked taking the counsel of the Purohith.
Garbhadaana Ritual
The newly wedded couple takes an oil bath on this day and are afresh. The parents of the couple invite the relatives and friends of the first circle for a feast.
On the other side, a room is arranged for the nuptial night ceremony of the couple where milk, flowers, fruits and sweets are placed. The couple after enjoying the dinner with the elders and well wishers seeks the blessings of the elders. Then Sumangalis perform aarathi to the couple and bid them to the room arranged for the nuptial night where the couple enjoy the intimacy.
The couple is given a farewell to their home after three days. While doing so, they are given all the presents required to start of their new family in a box (suitcase). This box will contain combs, dolls, cans, blouse pieces, milk funnel, eye soot, puja articles and other useful things. Generally, it is a custom to tie this box with a thread and tie Nalleri and curry leave branches on it. This is transported to the couple’s home by a member of the groom’s house.
